Meet her in Gothenburg/Lerum on the 20th of April and in Stockholm on the 28th.
A happy and overwhelmed Bendettah Muthina Thomas, director of Nikumbuke, received her visa to come to Sweden at the embassy in Nairobi this very morning. It was her fifth long trip from LungaLunga to Kenya´s capital in order to get permission to travel here.
– We expected her to come to Sweden the past August, but she was denied a visa for various reasons. Now we were putting our best efforts and hopes to see her in Sweden in April for a three weeks long stay. And so we will, Louise Felldin says, the chairman of fromone2another.
She stresses how much it means to have Bendettah come to Sweden:
– She has been cooperating with our country since 2008 and she has many, many friends and partners here that would like to meet her.
This time Louise herself has been in touch with both the Swedish and the Kenyan authorities in order to secure the visit.
– We kept our fingers crossed. Nothing was for sure until she held the visa in her hand this morning, Louise says.
In Sweden there are some hectic weeks waiting for Bendettah. She will meet with many of the organizations she cooperates with, but also meet new people and groups to promote the important work taking place in Nikumbuke and make as many people aware of it.
She will also meet with the two Swedish volunteer organizations which are sending mentors to LungaLunga. This is an important part of the program both as an income and for the cultural exchange – and also to give Swedes an unforgettable experience in Kenya.
There will be two bigger public events where Bendettah will introduce herself and the work of Nikumbuke - one in Gothenburg or Lerum on April 21st, and one in Stockholm on April 28st.
Louise and the whole team of fromone2another really look forward to have Bendettah as our guest:
– We and Bendettah are also planning for a conference to take our cooperation to the next level and for a more sustainable operation in Kenya, Louise says.
